GOING DOWN TO THE GROUND (TURPA) PROGRAMME BY CANNING ASSEMBLYWOMAN CUM DEPUTY STATE ASSEMBLY SPEAKER JENNY CHOY TSI JEN TO TAMAN CEMPAKA, IPOH
IPOH, 28 JULY 2026 – Canning Assemblywoman cum Deputy State Assembly Speaker Jenny Choy Tsi Jen went down to the ground (TURPA) to Taman Cempaka in Ipoh today to inspect complaints raised by local residents regarding the sudden collapse of roofs and masonry in several housing units at Persiaran Cempaka Sari 28, Taman Cempaka, Ipoh, which was suspected to be linked to underground soil movement.
Also present during the visit were MBI Councillor (Taman Cempaka Zone) Clr. Lee Tze Hoo, Perak Mineral and Geoscience Department Deputy Director Hamlee Ismail, MBI City Development Control Director Ts. Muhammad Syahril Sapiran, officers from Ipoh City Council and State Mineral and Geoscience Department, as well as resident representatives.
Results of the physical monitoring and on-site investigation found no ground movement as reported, but there was a possibility that roof renovation works carried out on one of the houses may have caused changes to the original structures of several units in the area.
In this regard, the Council’s initial action, through its Development Control Department will issue notices under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 and permits to allow house repair works in the affected area; these include the installing of support props and partition walls in each affected house to prevent more serious incidents from occurring.
This TURPA visit reflects MBI's commitment to ensuring that every public complaint is given attention, besides supporting the development of Ipoh as a prosperous, safe and sustainable city.
MBI hopes that every issue raised can be addressed in stages through the close cooperation of all stakeholders for the wellbeing and harmony of the local community.
