MBI HONOURS 71 RETIREES AT JASAMU DIKENANG CEREMONY FOR RETIREES OF 2025
IPOH, 9 JULY 2026 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) today honoured 71 retirees at the Jasamu Dikenang Ceremony for Retirees of 2025, held at the Grand Ballroom, Level 4, Ipoh Convention Centre.
The ceremony was officiated by Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah, as a gesture of MBI’s appreciation and respect for the dedicated service, loyalty and sacrifices of staff who have concluded their official service.
Also present were MBI Councillors, City Secretary A'zman Mohd Harun, heads of departments, officers, retirees and family members being honoured.
This year, the Jasamu Dikenang programme honoured 71 recipients, comprising 52 mandatory retirees, 10 optional retirees and 9 retirees who had passed away.
In his speech, the Mayor of Ipoh expressed his deepest appreciation to all retirees for their significant contributions in helping to build MBI’s strength as a local authority organisation that continues to play its role in providing services to city residents.
He stated that every public facility maintained, complaint resolved, policy implemented and service delivered to the community bears the imprint of the efforts of the officers and staff who once served in this organisation.
“Behind the well-organised roads, well-maintained public parks, cleaner city, organised licensing and enforcement affairs, collected revenue and planned development, lie the energy, time and dedication of MBI staff,” he said.
He also paid tribute to the retirees who had passed away and conveyed his appreciation to the family members present on their behalf.
He said that the names and contributions of the late retirees would continue to be part of MBI's history and prayed that all their deeds become lasting acts of charity.
The Mayor emphasised that the success of a civil servant is never built alone but is supported by spouses, children and family members who understand the demands of duty throughout the period of service.
He said that throughout their service, the retirees had left behind not only completed files, records or tasks, but also knowledge, experience, discipline, integrity and values of professionalism that serve as a guide for the next generation.
At the same time, he called upon MBI staff who are still serving to regard the ceremony as a reminder that every day in service is shaping their respective legacies.
“When the time comes for us to step out of this organisation, let us leave behind a name spoken with respect, work that serves as a reference and character that serves as an example,” he said.
He also described retirement not as an end point, but as a new phase for retirees to reorganise their lives by giving more space to health, family, spiritual pursuits, friendships and interests that may have previously been put on hold.
According to him, the knowledge, experience and wisdom of retirees can still be utilised through community work, residents’ associations, welfare bodies, religious activities, writing, small businesses or any other form of contribution according to their respective capabilities.
He also prayed that all retirees be blessed with good health, peace of mind, happiness with their families, blessed sustenance and a life lived to the fullest.
The Jasamu Dikenang Ceremony for Retirees of 2025 reflects the culture of appreciating the service and sacrifices of MBI staff who have made invaluable contributions to the development of Ipoh City and the wellbeing of the community.
