OPENING CEREMONY BY YBHG. THE MAYOR OF IPOH COVERING THE OPENING OF FENG CHA RESTAURANT, CANNING II, IPOH
January 18, 2024 - Y.Bhg. Dato' Rumaizi bin Baharin @ Md Daud, Mayor of Ipoh has officiated the opening of Feng Cha TLF Sdn Bhd Restaurant at No. 21, Canning Trading Center II, Ipoh Perak this afternoon.
The Environmental Health Department of the Ipoh City Council conducts routine and periodic inspections, monitoring of all food premises licensed under the MBI.
In 2024, the total number of food premises inspected is as many as 982 food premises that have achieved Grade A certification recognition out of 3200 food premises that have been licensed by the council, which has reached a percentage of 30% Grade A from the total number of licensed food premises.
The MBI continues to work on monitoring the inspection and grading of food premises routinely and aims to achieve a percentage of 50% Grade A food premises within the administrative area of the Ipoh City Council in 2025. The achievement of this target is important to boost the gastronomic economy among local food premises traders as preparation of the Ipoh City Council program for the Year of Visiting Malaysia 2026.
Ipoh City has been selected as one of the top 8 tourist destinations in Asia in 2025. According to a report from Time Out, Ipoh City ranks 5th out of 8 top destinations that attract tourists to historical areas and captivate tourists with heritage buildings and rows of shops. long apart from the beauty of the limestone caves and no exception Ipoh is also famous as a paradise for food and coffee drinks.
For mutual information, the recognition of Grade A certificates is only valid for 2 years from the date of issue. For premises that have obtained a Grade A certificate, they can apply for renewal at the 5th Floor, Environmental Health Department, Ipoh City Council. The authorized officer will conduct a re-inspection according to the format of the food premises evaluation and grading form from the Department of Local Government, Ministry of Housing and Local Government Malaysia (KPKT).
The Grade A certification criteria take into account the level of cleanliness of premises and toilets with the concept of Clean, Attractive and Fragrant (BMW). In addition, premises must submit some important documentation such as anti-typhoid injection cards for all food handlers, food handlers courses, installation of grease traps, and pest control.
The implementation of BMW's toilet cleanliness policy is taken into account as a condition for the renewal of the food premises business license which starts in 2024 by the Ipoh City Council on the recommendation of the KPKT. Throughout the year 2024, a total of 1689 food premises toilets have been inspected and given a star rating including 1670 food premises toilets that have been rated 4 stars or above. However, as many as 19 food premises toilets have been given a 3 star rating and action has been taken with a warning letter and compound and the business license will not be renewed in 2025 until the premises take compliance action and reach the cleanliness level of food premises toilets to 4 stars and above.
Follow-up action such as issuing a notice without a license under the Food Establishment By-law (Ipoh City Council) 2017 will be taken if it is found that the food premises are still operating after the business license has not been renewed.
