Ipoh, 31 January 2026 – The Establishment & Food Safety Unit, Public Health & Municipal Services Department, Ipoh City Council (MBI) conducted the Food Inspection and Seizure Operation Series 04/2026 within the Ipoh City Council administrative area. The operation was carried out under the Food Act 1983 and Food Regulations 1985, in line with the preparations for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration in February 2026.

The main objective of this operation was to raise awareness among food premises operators on the importance of environmental cleanliness and to ensure that food safety and quality levels are always maintained. In addition, the operation aimed to monitor the safety of food products in the market so that they are safe for consumers.

The focus of this operation’s inspection was on the following:

  1. Packaged food products without complete labels, such as type of food, manufacturer’s name and address, expiry date and nutritional information;
  2. Canned food products that were damaged, dented or rusty;
  3. Food products that had passed their expiry date;
  4. Food products that were unfit for consumption, including wilted or spoiled vegetables and fruits.

In this operation, a total of six (6) food premises were inspected, involving grocery stores and supermarkets. The inspection resulted in the confiscation and seizure of 168 types of food products with a total value of RM1,686.32.

Overall, for January 2026, a total of 22 food premises were inspected through the Food Inspection and Seizure Operation, with a total seizure of 1,199 types of food products worth RM10,787.58.

Among the food product offences and defects identified were 151 packaged food products found to be damaged or dented, while 10 types of food products had passed their expiry date as stated on the packaging. In addition, 1,038 types of food products failed to comply with the labelling standards stipulated under the relevant acts and regulations and did not meet the Ipoh City Council Licensing Requirements.

In this regard, 10 compound offers totalling RM7,750.00 were issued under the Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws (Ipoh City Council) 2017. Such operations will continue to be conducted throughout the year, especially ahead of the main festive seasons in Malaysia.

The Council hopes that the public will always be aware and concerned about food safety, as every individual has the right to safe, clean and nutritious food.
