KPKT ALLOCATES RM16 MILLION FOR THE NEW CONSTRUCTION OF PASIR PINJI MARKET, IPOH

IPOH, 26 January 2025 – The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has approved RM16 million for the reconstruction of Pasar Pinji Market. Therefore, today, the Minister of Housing and Local Government, YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming (YB KM) visited Pasar Pinji Market, Ipoh to personally inspect the progress of the new construction of this market.

This market, which is over 50 years old, will be given a new lease of life and a new look with a modern design, while also improving the quality of the market facilities involved.

Apart from that, the construction of the new market will also provide a more comfortable environment for traders and visitors. The reconstruction of Pasar Pinji Market includes the demolition of the original structure of the old market, 214 units of commercial space, 84 parking spaces including a disabled-friendly parking space, 39 motorcycle parking spaces, 3 lorry parking spaces.

For the construction process of this new market, the contractor has started work on site on 20 November 2024 and this project is expected to be fully completed on 18 November 2026 which will take 24 months.

KPKT through the Local Government Department (JKT) has also allocated RM1 million for the construction of a temporary market for this project which is located on Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) land. Ipoh City Council (MBI) has also contributed an allocation of RM540,000 for the temporary market project making the total amount for the temporary market RM1.54 million.

According to YB KM, Pasar Pinji Market will be a modern market that not only offers an attractive environment but is also OKU and senior citizen friendly. The implementation of this market project also takes into account green elements such as the Rainwater Storage System (SPAH), Green Rating (PH) and Energy Saving System.

YB KM's series of visits continued with a visit to the Taman Canning Market to inspect the market which was completed to be upgraded in 2024. The allocation for upgrading this market amounted to RM500,000 channeled by the KPKT through the Local Government Department (JKT). The market upgrading work was successfully implemented within 12 weeks by the appointed contractor.

The upgrading work involved included the replacement of roller shutters and grilles, painting work, electrical work, replacing old fences with anti-climb fences as well as landscaping work.

The Canning Market upgrading project is seen to be able to increase the level of comfort for traders and visitors to this market and also help generate income for the people.

This is in line with the KPKT's efforts to ensure the well-being of the people and balanced development in line with the country's economic growth.

The visit was also joined by the Secretary-General of KPKT, YBhg. Datuk Wira M Noor Azman Bin Taib; Mayor of Ipoh City Council, Y. Bhg. Dato' Rumaizi bin Baharin @ Md Daud; Taiping Member of Parliament, YB Tuan Wong Kah Woh; Pasir Pinji Assemblyman, YB Encik Goh See Hua and the top management of the Ministry of Transport and Communications as well as leaders from Local Authorities (PBT).
