MAYOR CALLS ON MBI STAFF TO STRENGTHEN INTEGRITY AND FOCUS ON BASIC SERVICES FOR THE WELLBEING OF IPOH RESIDENTS

IPOH, 9 APRIL 2026 – Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah called on all the Ipoh City Council (MBI) staff to continue strengthening integrity, efficiency and sincerity in delivering services to the people, especially in ensuring the delivery of quality and consistent basic services.

He said this during the Mayor’s Jalinan Kasih with MBI staff event 2026, held in an atmosphere full of warmth and Syawal spirit. The event was also attended by Former Third Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Ahmad Saleh Sarif, Former Eighth Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Roshidi Hashim, Former Ninth Ipoh Mayor Dato’ Harun Rawi, City Secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak, Dato’ Mazlan Abd. Rahman, MBI Chief Whip Wong Kar Keat, Councillors and MBI heads of departments.

According to him, in facing current challenges including the global energy crisis that impacts the cost of living and the national economy, society should adopt a moderate lifestyle, avoid waste and not be easily influenced by unverified news.

“Community resilience starts with our own attitude. Avoid spreading unverified information and the practice of panic buying, instead, obey the instructions of the authorities and refer to accurate sources,” he explained.

At the same time, the Mayor stressed that MBI must go back to basics in carrying out its functions as a Local Authority by prioritising basic services, such as waste management, road maintenance, drains, landscaping and street lighting.

“What is important is not what Ipoh City residents see, but what they feel. The daily experience of Ipoh City residents is the true assessment of our services,” he added.

He also stressed MBI’s commitment to realising the MBI Strategic Plan 2021–2030, which is the guide for Ipoh’s development towards becoming a smart, sustainable and prosperous city. Among the main aspirations of the plan are to make Ipoh the cleanest city, a major tourist destination and a low-carbon city.

However, he reminded that the success of the plan depends on its implementation that has a real impact on the wellbeing of Ipoh City residents.

Concluding his speech, he expressed confidence that with the spirit of togetherness, gratitude and resilience, MBI will be able to achieve its vision of making Ipoh a Smart and Prosperous City by 2030.
