MAYOR OF IPOH ATTENDS CLOSING CEREMONY OF PERAK STATE MOSQUE KARIAH COMMITTEE CONVENTION 2026

IPOH, 15 AUGUST 2026 – Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah today attended the Closing Ceremony of the Perak State Mosque Kariah Committee Convention 2026 at the Casuarina Convention Centre, Hotel Casuarina @ Meru, Ipoh.  

The convention, organised by the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk), brought together members of Mosque Kariah Committees from throughout Perak as a platform to strengthen understanding, leadership and management efficiency of mosque institutions, besides empowering the role of mosques as centres for community development and social wellbeing.  

The programme, which started at 8.00 am, featured various sessions, including a briefing on JAIPk Mosque Management Division by its Principal Assistant Director Firdaus Salleh, followed by a briefing on the Perak Mufti Department by Deputy Perak Mufti Dato’ Zamri Hashim.  

The convention also featured a special talk titled “Trustworthy Leaders, Driving the Golden Age of the Ummah”, by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.  

The Closing Ceremony began with the singing of the Perak State Anthem, recitation of Asmaul Husna and doa, followed by a welcome speech by Dato’ Harith Fadzilah Abdul Halim, Director of the Perak Islamic Religious Department.  

The highlight of the event was the closing speech by Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini, President of the Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk).  

At the same event, certificates were also presented to Kariah Committee members for the 2026–2029 term as a symbol of the trust and responsibility shouldered by them in continuing efforts to strengthen the management and role of mosque institutions throughout Perak.  

The attendance of the Mayor of Ipoh at the programme reflects the continuous commitment and support of Ipoh City Council (MBI) towards efforts to strengthen mosque institutions and empower kariah leadership as among the key pillars in shaping a harmonious, knowledgeable, integrity-driven and prosperous society. 

The organising of the convention is also hoped to enhance the capability and preparedness of the kariah leadership in facing current challenges, thereby ensuring that the mosque institutions remain relevant as centres of worship, education, welfare and community unity.  

The convention concluded with a luncheon before the participants dispersed at 2.00 pm.
