MAYOR OF IPOH SHOWS STRONG SUPPORT FOR PERAK ATHLETES AT SUKMA 2026

SELANGOR, 19 AUGUST 2026 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) continues to demonstrate its commitment and strong support for the Perak contingent currently carrying the state’s challenge at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2026. 

Today, Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah, together with the Ipoh City Council delegation, visited several competition venues to provide moral support and boost the morale of the Perak athletes currently competing. 

The programme began at 2.00 pm with a visit to Dewan UKM to watch the preliminary boxing rounds involving two Perak representatives. The visit was also joined by Malaysia Boxing Federation (PTM) President Datuk Mohamad Iruan Zulkefli. 

His presence, together with the delegation, reflected continuous support for efforts to develop and enhance excellence in boxing at both the state and national levels. 

The delegation then continued its visit to the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre to show support for Perak athletes competing in the swimming events. 

Also present at the Aquatic Centre to lend support were State Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching and State Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee Chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah. 

The presence of the state leadership together with the Mayor of Ipoh and the MBI delegation highlighted the strong spirit of togetherness and solidarity in supporting the Perak athletes who are shouldering the responsibility of representing the state at SUKMA 2026. 

Direct support at the competition venues not only boosts the athletes’ morale, but also demonstrates the continuous care and commitment of the Perak State Government and MBI towards sports development and the excellence of the younger generation.

MBI hopes that this morale booster will enhance the athletes’ confidence to continue delivering their best performances, thereby contributing to the Perak contingent’s success and bringing home medals.

All residents of Ipoh are also called upon to join in supporting and praying for the success of the Perak athletes, so that they may continue to excel, achieve success and bring glory to the state at SUKMA 2026.
