MBI RECEIVES HONOUR AWARD IN GREEN INITIATIVES AWARD – GOVERNMENT SECTOR CATEGORY AT 15TH MALAYSIA LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE AWARDS (MLAA)

24 MAY 2025 – Ipoh City Council (MBI), through its Parks and Landscape Department has received the Honour Award in the Green Initiatives Award – Government Sector category at the 15th Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards (MLAA) for its project titled “Bamboo: A Sustainable Solution for Green Landscape.”

This recognition reflects MBI's ongoing commitment to strengthening the implementation of Nature Based Solutions (NBS) in developing sustainable and comprehensive urban landscapes. Through this initiative, bamboo is highlighted as a sustainable alternative material, used not only in the production of landscape furniture but also integrated with shade tree planting for carbon absorption purposes, capable of enhancing urban biodiversity and mitigating the effects of the urban heat island phenomenon in urban areas.

In an era of modern landscape architecture that increasingly emphasises sustainability principles, the approach to landscape design is now not merely aesthetic but also encompasses ecological functions and environment responsibility. This shift is driven by growing public awareness regarding issues of climate change, biodiversity loss, and the need for development that harmonises with nature.

The award was presented by former President of Malaysian Institute of Landscape Architects (ILAM) Dato’ LAr. Ismail Ngah, in recognition of MBI's proactive role in pioneering a comprehensive and progressive nature-based landscape approach, aligned with the national landscape aspirations.

The Ipoh City Council (MBI) management extends its heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to all staff, strategic partners, and the community for their support and teamwork to achieve this success.

May this achievement serve as a catalyst for MBI's ongoing efforts to realise its aspiration of making Ipoh a Smart and Prosperous City by 2030, based on innovation, sustainability and well-being for all.
