TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF A SECTION OF JALAN BERCHAM TO IMPLEMENT DRAINAGE SYSTEM UPGRADING WORKS FOR FLOOD MITIGATION PURPOSES
IPOH, 21 APRIL 2026 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) would like to inform that a section of Jalan Bercham will be temporarily closed to make way for the implementation of drainage system upgrading works for flood mitigation purposes at the Bercham Industrial Area, Jalan Bercham, Ipoh.
The implementation of this project is following the frequent flash flood incidents in the area due to the existing drainage system no longer able to accommodate water flow, especially during heavy rain.
The temporary road closure is necessary to allow for the installation of a box culvert across Jalan Bercham, while also taking into account the risks associated with the many existing major utilities, namely Gas Malaysia, TNB, LAP, Telekom and Maxis located at the construction area.
To ensure traffic flow remains under control and road user safety is maintained, traffic diversions will be implemented in a phased and planned manner.
Road users heading towards Pekan Bercham will be diverted via Jalan Hala Industri Bercham 1, Hala Industri Bercham 2 and Persiaran Bercham Utara 11. Meanwhile, traffic heading towards Tambun will use a temporary road constructed at the project site.
This measure is taken to reduce traffic congestion and ensure smooth movement throughout the work period.
The road closure is planned to begin on 1 May 2026 and will take approximately 45 days, with an expected completion date around 15 June 2026.
In this regard, Ipoh City Council requests the public’s cooperation, understanding and patience throughout the implementation period of this project.
Road users are advised to always be careful, obey temporary signage and instructions from personnel on site, and plan their journeys in advance to avoid any inconvenience.
Ipoh City Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and hopes that the surrounding community and road users will understand the implementation of this project is for the public good.
MBI is also committed to ensuring that the project is completed safely, effectively and on schedule, especially in efforts to address the flash flood issue around Jalan Bercham and its surrounding areas.
