IPOH CITY COUNCIL CROWNED AS OVERALL CHAMPION OF THE MALAYSIAN LOCAL AUTHORITIES ASSOCIATION (MALA) SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP, 2024
9 November 2024 - Ipoh City Council (MBI) was crowned the overall champion of the Malaysian Local Authorities Association (MALA) Sports Championship, Year 2024.
The success was achieved through the efforts of MBI members who participated in all the sports events contested and contributed points in the championship held in four phases.
MBI overall received 58 points, beating out close competition who shared the same number of points, namely 52 points.
The runner-up was won by Kuala Lumpur City Hall and third place went to the Royal Klang City Council.
As a result of this success, MBI is entitled to be called the overall champion of the 2024 MALA Championship, thus taking home prizes in the form of cash, accompanying trophies and round trophies.
The winning prize was presented by YAB Dato’ Seri Haji Muhammad Sanusi Bin Md Nor, Menteri Besar of Kedah, to Tuan Haji Ahmad Munir bin Ishak, City Secretary cum Chef De Mission of the MBI Contingent, Encik A'zman bin Mohd Harun, Senior Director-Technical of MBI cum Deputy Chef De Mission of the MBI Contingent, and Encik Abdul Halim bin Saad, Senior Director of Administration and Operations of MBI, at the
Closing Ceremony of the MALA Championship held in Alor Setar, Kedah.
This year's MALA Championship involved the participation of 70 Local Authorities from all over Malaysia, with 13 sports events being contested.
Alor Setar Kedah, was the final location for the fourth edition of the MALA Championship, which saw two sports events being organised, namely 9-a-side football and netball.
In the competition, MBI managed to get fourth place in the 9-a-side football competition and the netball team qualified for the quarter-finals of the MALA Championship which lasted for three days.
