IPOH LOW CARBON DAY 2026: FOSTERING A SPIRIT OF SUSTAINABILITY AMONG IPOH CITY RESIDENTS

IPOH, 28 JUNE 2026 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) today successfully organised the third edition of Ipoh Low Carbon Day (ILCD) for 2026.

The 87th series of the programme was made even more special with the inclusion of a leisure run and Deco Picnic in conjunction with MBI's 38th Anniversary Celebration.

Carrying the theme "World Environment Day," this event continued to emphasise the importance of sustainable mobility in the city centre through the temporary closure of roads to all motor vehicles. This initiative successfully transformed Persiaran Bandaraya into a more dynamic, safe and visitor-friendly community space for recreational activities, environmental education and social interaction.

The programme’s festivity was further enlivened by the 5-kilometre Fun Run Ipoh Low Carbon Day, which attracted nearly 1,000 participants. This leisure run not only fostered an active lifestyle culture among the community, but also symbolised MBI's appreciation for the community's continued support of the city's sustainability agenda.

At the same time, the Deco Picnic event, organised in conjunction with MBI's 38th anniversary celebration, received enthusiastic response from visitors. This activity enlivened the event atmosphere besides encouraging family and community participation in healthy and eco-friendly leisure activities.

In addition to promoting a healthy lifestyle, the programme was further enhanced with various sports and family-oriented activities. Among them were a kickboxing demonstration showcasing the martial art and a family cycling activity specifically planned to strengthen family bonds through healthy outdoor activities.

In support of environmental sustainability, the Green Innovation and Technology Hub showcased various future-oriented green technology solutions. MBI also continued to reinforce its No Plastic Campaign by encouraging visitors to bring their own reusable water bottles and bags throughout the event. Additionally, a used cooking oil collection campaign was conducted to enable the oil to be reprocessed into biodiesel.

Health and community services were also given attention through the participation of the Kinta District Mobile Dental Clinic, which provided free dental check-ups and consultations to visitors. The event atmosphere was further enlivened with various side activities, including a preloved clothing sale, Pos Malaysia promotional booth, financial and insurance product campaigns by local banks, and telecommunications product promotions.

Overall, this edition of the ILCD programme attracted approximately 1,500 visitors and concluded completely at 10.00 am.

The programme’s opening ceremony was officiated by MBI Councillor Tang Cheng Wei.

The organisation of Ipoh Low Carbon Day once again demonstrated MBI's continued commitment to strengthening public awareness on the importance of a low-carbon lifestyle, environmental sustainability and the development of a city that is greener, more inclusive and sustainable.
