ENGAGEMENT & BRIEFING SESSION ON IMPLEMENTATION OF PHASE 1A AND PHASE 1B OF IPOH CENTRAL MARKET UPGRADING PROJECT

IPOH, 24 AUGUST 2026 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) held an Engagement and Briefing Session on the Implementation of Phase 1A and Phase 1B of the Ipoh Central Market Upgrading Project with traders and stakeholders to provide a detailed explanation regarding the works to be carried out. 

The session was chaired by MBI Public Works Director Ir. Ts. Arif Mohd Zainudin, together with Kepayang Area Councillor Clr. Wong Kar Keat, Senior Project Engineer Ir. Ts. Nur Aifa Farihah Mad Nor, Lead Consultant Beu Tan Architect and Main Contractor Seri Bumi Makmur Sdn. Bhd. 

This engagement session aimed to brief traders on the implementation of Phase 1A and Phase 1B, including the areas involved, the design and positioning of new stalls, work execution methods, make-good works for the interior and exterior of stalls, placement of temporary stalls and relocation plans during the construction period. 

The project will be implemented in phases to ensure that operations at the Ipoh Central Market can continue and disruptions to the traders’ business activities are minimised. 

The session also served as a two-way platform for MBI to obtain feedback, identify issues and listen to the views and needs of traders before work commenced in each zone. The cooperation of traders in giving access to contractors, particularly during the relocation process and handover of work areas, is very important to ensure the project schedule can be carried out smoothly. 

This upgrading project encompasses improvements to the facilities and environment of the Ipoh Central Market, including lighting, accessibility, supporting facilities, food court, plaza, building facade and business stalls, to create a more comfortable and conducive atmosphere for traders and visitors.
