MAYOR OF IPOH SHOWS SUPPORT FOR PERAK ATHLETES IN SUKMA 2026 BOXING AND CRICKET EVENTS

BANGI, 22 AUGUST 2026 – Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah today continued his visit to the competition venues of the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) to give moral support and boost the morale of the Perak athletes who are carrying the state’s challenge in this prestigious sporting event.  

The visit covered the boxing and cricket competition venues at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Bangi, as a sign of the Ipoh City Council’s (MBI) continuous support for the Perak contingent in their pursuit of success and bring glory to the state at SUKMA 2026.  

The Mayor’s presence at the competition venues also reflects MBI’s commitment to supporting the development of sports in the state, particularly for the athletes who have devoted their utmost effort, discipline and fighting spirit towards contributing to the success of the Perak contingent.  

On this occasion, he also offered words of encouragement to the athletes to continue competing with confidence, remain focused and display high sportsmanship in every competition.  

The Mayor of Ipoh was also given the honour of presenting prizes to the winners of the cricket event, thereby enlivening the competition atmosphere and giving recognition to the athletes for their achievements and sportsmanship.  

He also expressed his appreciation to the coaching staff, team officials and all parties who have consistently given commitment and support to the athletes throughout their preparations and participation in the games.  

MBI prays that the entire Perak contingent will continue to achieve outstanding success throughout SUKMA 2026 and succeed in realising the “Silver To Gold” aspiration, thereby elevating the standing and excellence of sports in Perak at the national level.
