IPOH LOW CARBON DAY RETURNS IN HIGH SPIRITS, AEROBICS ENLIVENS HEALTHY LIFESTYLE AND LOW-CARBON CITY
IPOH, 27 SEPTEMBER 2026 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) continues to strengthen its commitment to fostering environmental sustainability and a healthy lifestyle through the organisation of Ipoh Low Carbon Day, held in a lively atmosphere at Dataran Bandaraya Ipoh this morning.
The programme was attended by Darul Ridzuan Institute (IDR) Chief Executive Zulqarnain Mohamad M, together with Heads of Departments from the Ipoh City Council (MBI).
This edition featured a difference by placing emphasis on the community health and fitness agenda, in line with MBI's efforts to continuously expand healthy lifestyle practices besides fostering awareness regarding the importance of a low-carbon culture among the public.
Among the main attractions was the 1-Hour Aerobics session, which successfully brought together about 500 participants from various government agencies, residents associations, youth clubs and the local community. The activity took place in a lively and cheerful atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of togetherness among city residents.
The highlight of the festivities was enlivened with a lucky draw, including prizes for aerobics participants as a token of appreciation for the community's support and commitment in making the programme a success.
The programme also received encouraging response, with an estimated 1,000 visitors flocking to the venue since 7.00am, proving that the level of public awareness and support for healthy lifestyle initiatives and low-carbon city development are increasing.
In line with the Smart City aspiration, several main roads around the programme venue were also temporarily closed to motor vehicles. This measure not only helped to reduce carbon emissions but also created a safer and more comfortable space for walking, exercising and recreation with family.
The organising of Ipoh Low Carbon Day is part of ongoing efforts under the Smart and Low Carbon City Programme, which is among the key initiatives in transforming Ipoh into a more sustainable, green, liveable and prosperous city by 2030.
By integrating physical activities such as aerobics with the environmental sustainability agenda, MBI hopes that messages concerning healthcare, fitness and environmental responsibility can be instilled in a more relaxed, inclusive and comprehensive manner to all segments of society.
MBI will continue to intensify the implementation of programmes based on sustainability and community wellbeing to realise the aspirations of Ipoh Bestari Sejahtera and to make Ipoh a clean, green, healthy and low-carbon city.
